Claas’ work is distinguished by his ability to tell gripping stories in a compelling way, through highly cinematic visuals and believable humour. Each step of his career has seen him advance rapidly into the formidable talent he now is.
As a teenager in 90s Hamburg, Ortman became enthralled with the movies and music videos of the day, soaking up the bold visual styles and strong narrative chops of his cinematic heroes.
He quickly turned his hand to creating his own work, and by the age of 16 was shooting his own short films on Hi8 video, moving into music videos by the turn of the millennium. After working as a production assistant he began writing his own treatments for music videos, some of which were produced by the company where he was working.
From there, it was just a skip to him joining the famous HFF Munich Film School, and then a small jump to him directing his first commercials and quickly winning a Cannes Young Directors Award.
